Big Update

So I forgot to update this in a while but i was still working on the project. I have got lots of new things implemented now. The save/load system is fully functional now, All 30 levels have been made all with their each own unique design (Still have to tweak the enemy spawning for a few of them).A problem with the wave meter was fixed and also I added difficulty to each wave to make a higher wave number harder.

What I have left to do , I still need add a few more sound effects but only a few , I also need to get some music track(s) for the game ( not so sure what to do for that yet).A couple of few more tweaks and bug fixes , getting rid of testing things and few other things.

My plan was to get it released before September, I plan on adding the above then realising it so it’s available for playtesting before the 10th next month.

Buildings

I have been working recently on the buildings trying to get the sprites fit into the games theme. I’m also in the middle of adding the building powers. It looks like there is going to be a total of 9 buildings to add to your town.

Minor Touches

The good news is that spells are completely finished and they are looking good and really add to the gameplay well. As well as just adding some minor things to the game, such as having the end game report screen completely finished and trees are now more varied, they will now be different sizes, face different directions. There will also be varying colours as well, such as maple trees.

More Spells

Still working more on spells, got the spell menu created today which controls the same as the tower menu .Managed to get two of the spells created already with their graphic effects, which is why progress was a bit slower than I wanted it to be. I don’t care though as its more enjoyable seeing the spell fully functioning when I create it, rather than waiting until I finished them all then adding the graphic effects to them.

Spells

Started work today on spells, which is good news because it’s the last gameplay element to be implemented. I’m trying to work on unique spells as I don’t want spells that just do the same function the towers perform.

The lightning tower I was working on looks great I managed to get the dynamic electricity flow I was going for , so I’m extremely pleased about that working out well.

Tower

Added a new Ice tower which freezes enemies causing them to slow down. Also working on a lightning tower currently. I want the lightning effect to look dynamic so it will take slightly longer than the ice tower.

Also fixed a few problems caused by the new animation system. Such as it breaking the wave meter.

Animation

Created a new animation system for the units, instead of using a sprite sheet with different pictures of a unit, I instead used a sheet full of body parts, so that the animation is generated now, which allows me to make the units do a number a cool things. I could if I wanted to have units explode with body parts flying around, but I’ll probably just keep to using it for less violent actions like walking.

Town Builder

Went back to the town builder to make it finished and to replace all that nasty “programmer art”. Just need to make a few more buildings to add to the town.

The town builder is basically a feature that once you complete a level or replay it, you get awarded construction points. The player can then use these construction points to make new buildings in the town.

Each building has special functions , such as houses they generate gold every few seconds , while other buildings such as armouries award cheaper towers and so on.

Buildings and Sounds

I was planning on remaking the build menu for some time so I finally got around to it. Tried to make it a bit better than it was before. So I’m glad I have that part finished , I’m just going to add some highlighting for when the player places the building so they know what it is they are going to place .

Once I have finished with that, it is then on to adding some sound effects. My flame tower which I’m pretty pleased with right now just needs some sound to make it come alive and it also doesn’t feel right , that at the moment the catapult makes the same sound as bow.

Core game done

I have finished , the main part of the game now , so now its possible to select a level complete it and then get awarded a rank depending on your performance.This then unlocks the next level.


This is good because it leaves me more time on adding more features .

Still Alive


I'm still working on it just , forgot to update this Blog.

In other news it is almost finished , I would probably say it would be realistic for it be finished at the end of this month .Well the main game anyway , I am thinking about re-doing the artwork for it anyway.Iv'e already redone the taskbar at the bottom .
